Objectives:
• The B.Sc.-IT at University of Mumbai and its affiliated colleges aims to synergies Information Technology in all its ramifications.
• To meet this objective the program is designed to provide basic inputs in various aspects of and a broad understanding of IT and its other interdisciplinary interfaces.
• The focus of the program is “Information Technology and management of information technology.”
A look at successful businesses today reveals one strategic strand common to all they have evolved to become information enabled businesses. Smart busineses are turning to technology to guarantee them the extra edge needed to stay ahead of the pack. Information Technology’s role is fast emerging as a driver rather than an enabler of business. It is used from simple office automation to decision support,re-engineering and organization transformation .A new genre of managers who will harness the awesome capabilities of Information Technology,is required to tap the full potential of this tool.There is a pressing need for a program that can bridge the gap between managerial practices in Viogue and Information Technology so that business can be effectively managed.
ELIGIBILITY:
(A)Candidate for being eligible for admission to the degree course of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (B.Sc.-IT), shall have passed XII standard examination of the Maharashtra Board of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent with Mathematic and Statistics as one of the subject and should have secured not less than 45% marks in aggregate for open category and 40% marks in aggregate in case of reserved category candidates.
(B) Candidate who have passed Diploma (Three years after S.S.C. (Xth std) in Information technology/Computer technology /Computer Engineering/Computer Science/Electrical, Electronics and Video Engineering and Allied Branches/Mechanical and Allied Branches/ Civil and Allied branches /Mechanical and Allied Branches/Civil and Allied branches of are eligible for direct admission to the Second Year of the B.Sc.(I.T.) degree course.
However, the Diploma should be recognized by the Board of Technical Education or any other recognized Government Body. Minimum marks required 45% aggregate for open category candidates and 40% aggregate for reserved category candidates.
OR
Candidate with post HSC-Diploma in Information technology/ Computer technology /Computer Engineering/Computer Science/and Allied branches will be eligible for direct admission to the Second Year of B.Sc.(I.T.).However However , the Diploma should be recognized by the Board of Technical Education or any other recognized Government Body. Minimum marks required 45% aggregate for open category candidates and 40% aggregate for reserved category candidates.
DURATION OF COURSE:
The duration of the course shall be six semesters spread over three years. The course shall consist of 29 theory papers and one project work in sixth semester to be completed in the Institution/Industry/Research organisation.

The maximum number of students at the F.Y. & S.Y. & T.Y.B.Sc.-IT will be 60 at each Semester.
SCHEME OF EXAMINATION FOR B.SC.-I.T.
1. Theory Paper: Max. Marks -100
2. Practical / Tutorial: Max. Marks -50
3. Semester Six has a project work that is evaluated for 200 marks.
PASSING STANDARD FOR B.SC.-I.T.
1. A student is said to have passed if she/he secures 40% of marks allotted in each head of passing. Theory of 100 marks and (TW / practical / tutorial of 50 marks ) are treated as separate heads of passing
2. A student is said to have passed semester I if the student passes in all heads of passing of the semester.
3. A student is eligible to be admitted to semester II irrespective of no.of heads of failure in the first semester. A student is eligible to for admission to semester III if,
4. Either the student passes semester I and II completely OR the student fails in combination of Theory and/or practical taken in semester I or semester II or together, where the total marks does not exceed 200.
5. A student is eligible to be admitted to semester IV irrespective of no. of heads of failure in the third semester. However the student has to clear semester I and II in order to appear for semester IV examination. A student is eligible for admission to semester V if ,
6. Either the student passes semester III and IV completely. OR the student fails in a combination of Theory and / or practical taken in semester III or semester IV or together, where the total marks does not exceed 200.
7. A student is eligible to be admitted to semester VI irrespective of no.of heads of failure in the semester V. the results of semester VI will be kept in abeyance until the student clears III, IV and V semesters in full.
8. The class is awarded semester wise for semester I, II, III and IV. However semester V and VI will be taken together for award of class i.e., in the final year.
• Award of class is based on first attempt and all papers given in the same sitting.
• Passing in parts will be awarded pass class irrespective of cumulative percentage marks
• Distinction is awarded for 75% and above
• First class is awarded for 60% and above but below 75%
• Second class is awarded for 50% and above but below 60%
• Pass class is awarded for 40% and above but below 40%
