Dr. Mrs. G. Rajalakshmy


She is the Head of the Department of Business Economics. She has 31 years of teaching experience at the U. G. level and 12 years at theP.G.level teaching Micro Economics, Macro Economics, International Economics, Rural Economics . She is a first class M.A. Economics Degree holder from the University of Kerala and has done her M.phil from Mumbai University. The topic of Mphil  dissertation was” Cashew Production, Processing and Export- a study with special reference to India”. She has completed her PhD from YCMOU , Nashik on the topic “ Emerging Issues of Diversification and profitability of land use patterns in Kerala”.

She was an active member of the Board of Studies in Business Economics, Mumbai University for the period 2005-2010. She is reelected for  the period 2010-2015 and is also the Member of the Faculty of Commerce (P.G.), Mumbai university. She was actively involved in the framing of syllabi at the graduate and post graduate levels . At present she is in the core team for framing the syllabus for Mcom Part1 Economics. She was the Chairman for Business Economics Paper111 for University of Mumbai for the years 2010 and 2011. She is also a visiting faculty for MBA.
                                                               
She has written study material and course materials for B.A. and M.A.  and Bcom students of IDOL, university of Mumbai.
                                                               
She was the Convener of the UGC sponsored State level seminar hosted by the Department on “ New Manmohanomics; A Strategy for Corporate Governance” . She has also taken initiatives to organize workshops on Use of Quantitative Techniques in Economics, Case Studies, Syllabus Revision workshops, and Intercollegiate Seminars on current topics like “ WTO and India; the Current Scenario”. She being the Chairman of the’ Planning Forum ,has taken the initiative to organize industrial and study tours to RBI ,BSE, and food processing units, programmes of the Forum of Free Enterprise etc.
                                                            
She was the Resource Person for more than 10 Workshops organized  by the Board of Studies in Business Economics and has chaired sessions for the National seminars and conferences She was also the Resource Person for the Workshops organized for the newly introduced Credit Based Grading System , University of Mumbai
                                                              
She has presented research papers at the national and international levels. Her paper was given the “Outstanding Paper Award” for the International  Commerce & Management Conference hosted by Mumbai University, Commerce Department in 2011. She has also presented research papers at the Indian Economic Association Conferences, 92nd and 93rd.    She has undertaken a UGC  sponsore Minor Research project on “The Economic Potential of Organic Farming in India “and is a life member of MOFF, Indian Economic Association  and The Economics Foundation

Dr. (Mrs.) Rohini A. Kelkar
                 
She is associate professor with 23 years of teaching experience in the subjects of Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Indian Economy, Research Methodology, and Computer Applications to Economic Analysis. She is a gold medalist from the University of Mumbai. She has completed her Ph.D. thesis on “Environmental Impact of Trade Liberalisation: A Study based on Manufacturing Industries in India” from Indian Institute of Technology (Powai).
She has completed a minor research paper on “Scope and Prospects for Medical Tourism in India: A Case study of Super-specialty hospitals in Mumbai” sponsored by the University of Mumbai.

She has presented papers in National/International seminars. Some of them are:

Her areas of interest are international trade, environmental economics, labour economics.

The Planning Forum – an organisation of Department of Business Economics and Economics

The Department of Economics and Business Economics conducted a number of activities to help the students excel academically. The activities were meant to enable the overall development of students and provide a platform to learn various skills as well .

1. Discussions and debated on “The Sub-Prime Crisis” and the “Global Financial Meltdown” were conducted in August 2009 in which the students from various levels participated.

2. In collaboration with the Forum of Free Enterprise, the Planning Forum hosted are elocution competition for the students on topics like the Global Financial Recession in November 2009. The students who excelled were given prizes.

3. The Planning Forum hosted an Intercollegiate Seminar on the topic “WTO and India” -“The Current Scenario”. The main speaker for the session was Mr. S. S. Bhandare from the Tata Institute in January 2010. The later part of the seminar session was done by the members of the Department.

4. The Department of Business Economics hosted a one day workshop in collaboration with the Board of Studies in Business Economics, University of Mumbai to discuss the Revised Syllabus for T.Y.B.Com. to be implemented from June 2010. The resource persons consisted of the members of the Board of Studies in Business Economics. The workshop was attended by 50 college teachers from colleges in the western suburbs of Mumbai from Dahanu to Churchgate on 3rd February, 2010.

5. The Department, thorough Planning Forum, conducts study tours to stock exchange, Reserve Bank of India, etc every year.
