Extra and Co-Curricular Activites :

  • Participated in 102nd Indian Science Congress as a member of organizing committee from 3rd to 7th January 2015 at University of Mumbai.
  • Completed Modi script certificate course with First class, organized by Department of Archives, Maharashtra State.

Project Experience : -

  • Conducted an inter collegiate certificate course on “Introduction to Modi Script”
  • Attended an Excavation camp for ten days at Chandore conducted by Center of Extra Mural studies, University of Mumbai.
  • Attended an Excavation camp for two days at Ter conducted by State Department of Archaeology and Museum.

Report of the Department 0f History 2014-15

Department Activities

1. Commomeration of the 100 Years of the World War I :

Since 2014 marks 100 years since the Great World War first began, the department decided to commemorate the event, especially the role played by the Indian soldiers.  An exhibition was held with posters showing the heroic efforts of the Indian soldiers on land, sea and air.

2. Field Trip to Kanheri Caves :

The Educational Excursion that we carried out in a historical site Kanheri Caves, Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai with Students FYBA, SYBA and JR College Students and teacher visited on 24th Nov 2015. They were briefed on political, social, religious and economic history of Kanheri and detail account on development of Kanheri caves. While exploring at the site, students were excited to find ancient pottery fragments and iron slag. Students even tried to read ancient inscriptions written in Brahmi.

3. Celebration of Archaeology Day :

The Centre for Extra-Mural Study and the Centre of Archaeology of the University of Mumbai celebrated the Archaeology Day on 10th and 11th December at the Vidyanagari Campus of the University of Mumbai. There were much to see like an ancient script, fossils, sculpture, weapons, coins but the students enjoyed seating at the wheel and making pot themselves. Mrs. Agnes De Sa and Miss Pooja U.Yadav volunteered at Archaeology Day. The event was widely covered by the Press.

4. Participated in Site Seminar at Ajanta :

Mrs Agnes De Sa and Ms. Pooja U. Yadav, participated in three day site seminar from 6th to 9th February 2015, conducted by Dr. Walter Spink and received certificate from the University of Michigan. Walter Spink gave us a complete picture of development of Ajanta caves.

5. Field visit to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya and (Formerly Prince of Wales Museum of Western India) and Maharashtra State Archives :

The educational Visit on 12th Feb 2015 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Vastu Sangrahalaya (Formerly Prince of Wales Museum of Western India) and Maharashtra State Archives Department at Elphinstone College. Since TYBA has the paper on Museology and Archival science, students got the practical knowledge of collection, exhibition and conservation of the artifacts and documents.
