The Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS)
Le Melange.... the annual BMS festival of L.S Raheja College was definitely in line with their tag-line-
‘Blend of the best’. All the prominent colleges of the city including NM, Mithibai, St. Xaviers participated
in the 5 day long fest that has just concluded.
The festival showcased events like ‘THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE’ in which the participants indulged in
several activities like rappelling, pulley sliding, valley crossing and other such adventure activities to
prove their mettle and win the grueling day long challenge!
Le Melange- the fest which is synonymous with the word ‘glamour’. The celebrity list read the names
of, Somnath Mukherjee Somnath Mukherjee Somnath Mukherjee Somnath Mukherjee Somnath Mukherjee the winner of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Kshitij Wagh - the finalist in Indian Idol
2, who judged the singing competition, Mr. R.K Dutta the famous theatre personality who judged the
personality contest, and other celebrities included Anubhav Suman, Bhavdeep Jaipurwala and Rajeev
Goswami who judged the fashion show and dance performances.
The festival had roped in sponsors like Cinemax, Big FM., Yuva, Lemon, Integrity, Suraj Water Park,
Sweet Tooth, Bright Advertisement and Milan Mall.
All in all, the festival was a grand success and the participants as well as the students of Raheja
College are looking forward to Le Melange 2008. .. !!!
The Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM)
The year 2007, has proved to be a year of reckoning for the BMM section of the college with its
brilliant feats. The BMM section has become a force to reckon with. After emerging victorious at OLE'-
Wilson colleges inter college fest and getting third place at National college Cutting Chai. There is no
doubt that this stream has now come into the limelight. The gloriously talented BMMites has exhibited
their undying enthusiasm and jaw dropping skills in the various events held in prominent colleges and
events such as Swami Vivekanand, Xavier's, Mithibai, Adspark etc. they continue to outshine their
opponents in the race for college supremacy.
The learning experience hasn't been limited to the festivals and lectures alone what with industrial
visits giving the students a hand on approach to the industry. The Pune industrial visit was a very
positive experience. Bal Chitravani and National Archive not only provided the students with the
history of Indian films but also instructed them in the technical aspects of the challenging profession of
film making. The FYBMM and SYBMM also had a good fortune of witnessing the live recording of an
episode of a weekly television series that showcases the fabulously talented upcoming stars of the
entertainment industry.
To add to these wonderful events the TYBMM had the splendid chance to spend time at Whistling
Woods-Asia's largest and finest film making institutes - when they got to visits the sets of the massively
popular television series 'Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki' .
All in all it has been a very productive year for the department. Besides winning accolades, we have
also had the wonderful opportunity to interact and share experiences with students from colleges all
over the city. The department hopes to have a festival of its own very soon and if the infectious
exuberance of the students is anything to go by, it is only a matter of time.
Bachelor of Commerce - Accounting & Finance (BAF) & Bachelof of Commerce - Banking & Insurance (BBI)
The students of B.Com (Accounting & Finance) and B.Com (Banking & Insurance) had a
fabulous year, be it academics or extra curriculum activities.
At the onset, a warm welcome was given to the fresh batch of FY's with a Fresher's party
which was highly appreciated & enjoyed by them.
As far as academics are concerned it was a fruitful year for both the courses & on the other
hand when it comes to extra curricular activities, a separate league was established.
Keeping in mind the advantage of first hands on experience, the students had an Industrial
Visit to Banglore - Mysore - Ooty where they visited the following industries:-
- Coca-Cola Factory.
- Mysore Sandal Soap Factory.
- Sandal Oil Factory.
- Tea Factory
This year will surely be considered as one of the most memorable year, as our students of
both the courses won trophies & shields in various inter-collegiate events.
At the same time, an inter-collegiate management & cultural festival namely " Ruhhh . . . "
was hosted By B.A.F. & B.B.I. For B.A.F. & B.B.I. students for the very first time in this college
for which there was a marvelous & overwhelming response from other colleges.
Regarding management training, the students got a platform to learn & earn in various
companies like:-
- Max New York Life Insurance
- Birla Sun Life Insurance
- JuriSearch Pvt. Ltd. ( L.P.O.), etc.
Plus, a host of guest lectures for various topics were conducted for the benefit of students.
In all, a fruitful year for the students of B.A.F. & B.B.I.. We would like to thank the Principal,
the Vice - Principal & the Management of the College including the Teaching & Non -
Teaching Staff for their co-operation without whom all this would not have been possible.
The Bachelor of Science - Information Technology (B.Sc. IT)
B.Sc (IT) was another feather in the already illustrious cap of L.S.Raheja’s existing self-financing
courses at the very outset of the announcement, there was an overwhelming response from the
students and it gave us an opportunity to house the best from the numerous applications. B.Sc (IT)
boasts of the best faculty dedicated and qualified along with very committed students who are truly
interested.
The first year batch of B.Sc (IT) conducted L.S.Raheja’s first ever TECHNICAL FESTIVAL InsighT thereby
creating a historical beginning. The festival which continued for three days from the 2nd of February
to 5th of February 2008 was well attended approximately by 16 colleges from all over Mumbai. The
main event of the Tech Fest was The Bombay Pirates wherein participants consisting of 15 teams
involved thereby making the event a huge success. In the Technical Section various events were held
where the maximum participation was observed in Program IT. The excellences of the cameramen
were shown in the event Shoot InsighT . The Cultural Section boasted of various events having plenty
of participation and eager response. The creativity of an artist was exhibited in the event Art On
Chart. The Dance Cafe gave the Festival many breathtaking moments with a variety of dance forms
being performed from the western free style to the Hindi Movies Oldies Era. After the hectic schedule
of the day the students of B.Sc (IT) treated themselves to a party which was organized for themselves
only, later in the evening on the 4th of February 2008. All the participants and invitees had a chill out
in the evening event that was held on the 5th of February 2008.
To sum it up the first ever Tech Fest organized by B.Sc (IT) students and faculty of L.S.Raheja College
of Arts & Commerce achieved tremendous publicity and success thereby making it one of the most
publicized and happening events which will be a lighthouse in the years to come.
Add-On Courses
Firmly Believing in the dictum of expansion and augmentation, Principal Dr. (Ms) Minu Madlani,
decided to add one more feather in the existing illustrious cap of L.S. Raheja College of Arts &
Commerce. There was a whole new range of interesting Add-On Courses which were decided to be
included for the academic year 2007-2008 as the new plan of expansion. The new courses which
commenced from June 2007 were Diploma in Mass Communication & Journalism, Diploma in Retail
Management, Diploma in Language Fluency, Diploma in Animation & Graphics and Diploma in
Travel & Tourism.
Mr. S. Karan was appointed the coordinator for the Add-On Courses which had a fantastic response
of over 200 students initially applying for them. Qualified and experienced faculties from the various
streams came for lectures and several luminaries came for guest lectures. Industrial visits have always
taken place as scheduled which was a real "Add-On" to the courses.
The overwhelming response augurs well for the college as it is also providing suitable openings and
internship experience for the meritorious students. The students' feedback is very heartening as state
of the art Audio Visual, Multimedia facilities are provided to the students and faculty to make the
entire experience an extremely interesting one. It can be confidently stated that these Add-On Courses
will only multiply and enhance the reputation of the college.
