The Department of Sociology had a very fruitful year. The beginning of the academic year saw a lot of excitement with the T.Y.B.A. students doing well at the University exams held in April 2007. The F.Y.B.A. students put up some very enlightening posters on “Environmental and Women’s Issues” as part of the poster competition.

The students were exposed to films and documentaries on various social issues during the year to sensitize them to different social problems. Guest speakers were also invited to give lectures on various topics such as “Organisation Studies” A very effective street play was put up by the students of the Sociology Association on the
occasion of WORLD AIDS DAY, on the 1st December 2007. Both Dr. Mrs. Saldanha and Mrs. Samya Shinde were very involved in Syllabus revision and attended many seminars and workshops for Syllabus Revision for T.Y.B.A.. Mrs. Samya Shinde successfully completed a refreshers course on “Research Methodology” conducted by the Academic Staff College at the University of Mumbai in February 2008. We at the sociology department look forward to another year and have many more plans and activities planned out for the students.
